The Sophie Scarf is worked back and forth in one piece, from tip to tip in garter stitch with built-in i-cord edges. The smaller size Sophie Scarf reaches around the neck once, while the larger size can wrap around the neck twice.
Here at Inspire A Mind, we have knitted this scarf with many different yarns. Scarves can be a little longer, shorter, wider and it is still a beautiful scarf - if you love the yarn. I've used DK weight hand-dyed yarn, Fingering weight yarn held together with a lace weight Suri alpaca, sport weight yarns too. Many fun and creative possibilities.

Length from tip to tip: approx. 80 (102) cm [31½ (40¼) inches]
Width at center: 11 (13) cm [4¼ (5) inches]
Gauge: 22 sts x 42 rows = 10 x 10 cm [4 x 4 inches] in garter stitch on a 3.5 mm [US4] needle
Needles: 3.5 mm [US4] / 60 cm [24 inches] circular needle
Materials: I have knitted several Sophie scarves and used all kinds of yarns. My hand-dyed merino wools like Penelope or Elliot requires just one skein of 100 g. Since a scarf doesn't always need to be a exact size, I would use any fingering, sock, sport or DK weight yarns. Here are a few of my suggestions: Lana Gatto's VIP (one skein) or Feeling (one skein) is great or Hjertegarn's Organic TRIO, or double strand of my hand-dyed bay-Suri Alpaca/silk (2 skeins) or CaMaRose's Midnatssol (2 skeins).
