75% Baby Suri Alpaca, 25% Silk | Lace Weight/2ply
230 yards / 210m per 25 gram skein

My hand-dyed Baby Suri yarns have a luxurious feel and are very soft. Suri Alpaca Silk is a blend of 75% soft, fluffy Baby Suri Alpaca with 25% Silk to create a cloud like 'halo' lace weight yarn. This yarn is softer than our mohair/silk blend- and a great alternative and/or substitute. This yarn can be combined with other yarns to create wonderful textured feel or on its own with a variety of needle sizes to create different fabric effects.

NOTES

  • Baby Suri alpaca/Silk is the perfect alternative to people who are sensitive to mohair.
  • All my hand-dyed yarns are smaller dye-lots and each hand-dyed yarns I create, are unique.
  • Because this yarn is hand‑dyed, some excess dye may remain—especially in highly saturated or very dark colors. Slight color release is a natural characteristic of hand‑dyed yarn and is most important to consider when working with contrasting colors, as dye transfer can occasionally occur. FIX: To help set the color, we recommend soaking your finished project in warm water with a small amount of household vinegar before use

Care Instructions: Each skein of my richly colored, hand-dyed yarns is a unique work of art! Due to the nature of the hand-dyeing process, some excess dye may be present. To maintain the vibrancy of your finished pieces, I recommend hand-washing them separately. Hand wash using a wool detergent ideally below 30 Degrees C (86F), avoid wringing and twisting. Dry flat, do not sun dry, spin or tumble dry.

Even in my solid shades, like soft cream, subtle variations add a touch of character to every skein. If you're looking for a more uniform color for your project, I suggest pairing with a mass-produced lace-weight yarn, such as CaMaRose Midnatssol, or similar mohair and alpaca blends for an even finish.

My alpaca/silk is sourced from alpaca in Peru that are treated humanely.

Lace weight yarn is an ultra‑fine yarn (Category 0), often associated with very small needles and a fine gauge. However, lace weight does not have one fixed or traditional gauge or needle size. Instead, it can be used in many ways depending on what a pattern calls for.

Lace weight is frequently knit on larger needles to create light, airy fabrics, or held together—sometimes doubled or paired with another yarn—to produce thicker, warmer fabrics with added softness and halo.

When working with lace weight yarn, always follow the pattern’s recommended gauge and needle size, which may vary widely.

Gauge can be anywhere from 19–32 stitches over 4 inches (10 cm) on  US 2–6 (2–6mm) needles

The key point is that lace weight yarn is versatile—its gauge and needle size are determined by the fabric you want to create and the pattern you are following, rather than by a single standard.
