The Shona Top is a versatile design offering two looks in one—begin with a sleeveless top and choose to add sleeves for a finished short-sleeve version.

Sizes: 1 (2, 3, 4) (5, 6, 7, 8)
Recommended ease: 15–25 cm / 6–9.75”
Finished bust: 101 (108, 116, 124) (131, 139, 146, 154) cm
Armhole/Sleeve circumference: 38 (42, 46, 50) (54, 54, 58, 61) cm

Gauge: 21 stitches x 28 rows = 10 x 10 cm in stockinette stitch (4 mm needles, after blocking)

All Photographs are courtesy of Irene Lin.

The Shona Top is constructed from the top down. The back is worked first to the armholes, after which stitches are picked up to create each front panel separately. The front and back are then joined and knitted in the round to the hem. Optional set-in sleeves can be added, and a delicate bubble-edge trim is finished using a crochet hook.

Yarn:  Erika Knight Studio Linen Print (85% viscose from recycled linen, 15% linen) or any DK weight yarn with similar yardage: 50g / approx. 120m (131 yards)

Sleeveless version: Approx. 360–1200 m total
Short sleeve version: Approx. 480–1320 m total

For the bubble border, a small amount (approx. 10–15 g) of contrasting or leftover yarn works well. Slightly thicker or textured yarns can add visual interest.

Needles & Notions
4 mm (US 6) circular needles (40–120 cm depending on section)
3 mm crochet hook (for edging)
Stitch markers, waste yarn

Notes
Yarn quantities are based on standard lengths—add extra if customizing for additional length.
