Shetland Style Pure New Wool

IAM Shetland is a traditional Shetland-style pure new wool from New Zealand. It is fingering weight, non-superwash and non-mulesing yarn available in 30 solid and heathered colors (not all colors are added in swatch image above). This yarn is VERY similar to Holst Supersoft (from the same yarn distributor, Knoll Yarns in UK) but it is a tiny-bit heavier: Nm8.4/2 (IAM Shetland is 220m ..... Supersoft is 287 m per 50 g skein). THis is also why the colors in this Shetland are almost the same as Supersoft.

Approx. 240 yards/220 meters per 50 gram ball. IAM Shetland is a 2-ply yarn.

Weight: Fingering

Knit with one thread at needles 3-3.5 mm/US 2.5-4
(Approx. 25 stitches = 10 cm/4 inches).
Knit with two threads at needles 4-4.5mm/US 6-7
(Approx. 16 stitches = 10 cm/4 inches).

This yarn has the authentic and rustic feel of Shetland wool and even though they have some Shetland sheep in parts of New Zealand, they have been mixed over generations so the wool is not 100% identical to Shetland from the UK. But it is extremely similar. After this yarn has been washed the yarn gets a lot more softer - and it keeps the lovely rustic look and feel. Combining IAM Shetland with other yarns can create interesting and beautiful textures. I have combined IAM Shetland with my hand-dyed IAM baby Suri alpaca/silk to create a more bulky and soft texture.

IAM Shetland wool can be used for shawls, sweaters, cardigans, jackets, ponchos, and blankets, pillows. I have pets and I love making small blankets for my couch, floor, bed and they love those wooly blankets.

Note: IAM Shetland contains a bit of spinning oil and excess dye. The oil and excess dye will disappear at the first wash - and the yarn will blossom and become extremely soft.

You can use a washing machine - on a cold delicate wool program.
