............................

The Felix cardigan by Amy Christoffers is a simple and speedy project, knit with worsted or light aran weight yarn at a loose, airy gauge. When knit with a mohair blend, the fabric drapes beautifully and develops a lovely bloom after washing, giving the garment a soft, full texture.

This version is constructed flat in rows. Short rows shape the neckline, and after completing the yoke, the sleeves and body are separated. The body continues back and forth in rows, while the sleeves are knit in the round. Compared to the Felix Pullover, this cardigan’s body is 1 inch longer, but you can adjust the length—just be sure to purchase additional yarn if you plan to make it longer.

Yarn Requirements
Approximate yardage: 700 (800, 900, 1000, 1100) yards of Aran weight yarn

Sample knit in Green Mountain Spinnery Mountain Mohair (60% wool, 30% mohair; 140 yd / 57 g), Color: Alpenglo

Number of skeins: 5 (6, 7, 8, 8)

Knit at a loose, open gauge, this pattern works well with Aran or light chunky yarns. Keep in mind that different yarns may yield varying yardage needs.

Finished Measurements
Bust circumference (measured at underarm): 39 (43 ½, 48, 52 ½, 57)”
Front length from cast-on edge to neckline: 22 (24, 25, 27, 28)”
Sample shown in size 43 ½", worn with 7" of positive ease.

Choose the amount of ease that best suits your style. This cardigan is designed to be worn with 2" to 10" of ease, depending on your preference.

If you'd like a closer fit, consult the sizing chart on the final page and consider lengthening the body accordingly. Be sure to adjust your yarn quantity to match.

Needles
US 10 / 6 mm circular needles: 16" and 24"+ for body, plus DPNs for sleeves
US 8 / 5 mm circular needles: 16" and 24"+, and DPNs for sleeve cuffs

Optional: US 5 / 3.75 mm circular or straight needles for tubular cast-on

Notions

  • 4 stitch markers
  • Tapestry needle
  • 6 buttons (20 mm each)

Gauge
14 stitches and 20 rows = 4” in stockinette on larger needles
(Always swatch and adjust needle size to achieve correct gauge)

Construction Notes
The Felix cardigan begins at the neckline with eyelet increases incorporated into the raglan shaping. After the yoke is completed, the sleeves are set aside and the body is worked back and forth. The sleeves are then finished in the round from the underarm down.
